About Us
The Albemarle RC&D Council,
Inc. is a non-profit
organization that helps
community groups and local
governments in northeastern
North Carolina to carry out
projects that protect our
natural and human resources
while promoting economic
development.
Our Mission
To wisely conserve natural
resources and create
opportunities for positive
economic and community
development.
Our Vision
To work in partnership with
private citizens, community
groups, businesses, and
local, state and federal
units of
government or agencies to
implement projects that
create a better place for
our citizens to live, work,
and
play. Project design and
implementation are based on
sound science and practical
experience.
Council Structure
The Albemarle RC&D Council
received its official
designation by the USDA
Secretary of Agriculture in
1975 and is governed by a
volunteer board of
directors.
Two representatives, one
from local government and
another from the Soil &
Water Conservation District,
are
appointed from each of 10
counties in northeast North
Carolina. Local civic or
business leaders may be
appointed as at-large
members as a third
representative
from each county.
The Albemarle RC&D office is
located in Edenton, NC.
Roles in local projects
Albemarle RC&D’s level of
involvement varies with each
project, depending on the
capabilities of the
organization
sponsoring the project.
Participation may include:

Assistance in
grant-writing,
administering
project
funds,
and
contracting for
services
needed to
complete the
project;

Project management
or coordination;
-
Support to raise
money for projects
through grants
from foundations,
corporations, and
local, state and
federal government;
and/or
Environmental
education
at community events,
workshops and
seminars.
